Pulau Tioman Basic Infrastructure Gets Focus In Budget 2027
ROMPIN, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Upgrading basic infrastructure on Pulau Tioman is among the areas being prioritised in the preparation of the 2027 Budget to support the well-being of residents and the growth of the island's tourism sector.
Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said strengthening the island's infrastructure is crucial to attract more tourists, thereby boosting business and employment opportunities for the local poeple.
He noted that key areas requiring attention include roads, water supply, telecommunications, and healthcare services to meet the needs of both residents and tourists on the island.
“We need to look at how to strengthen existing infrastructure so that we can attract more people to visit Pulau Tioman.
“When more tourists arrive, job opportunities for the residents of Pulau Tioman will also increase, and this will benefit the local community,” he said after launching a slipway facility in Kampung Mukut, Pulau Tioman, on Sunday.
Kampung Mukut was one of the locations he visited during his working visit as part of the Ministry of Finance’s Budget Tour Series to its ‘Kampung Angkat MADANI’ (Adopted Village) on Sept 26–27.
Earlier, he held a Budget 2027 engagement session with industry players and agencies involved in the development of Pulau Tioman.
Participants included entrepreneurs from the accommodation sector, the Tioman Development Authority (TDA), the Marine Department Malaysia, and the Pahang State Economic Planning Division.
Amir Hamzah stated that the Ministry of Finance would collaborate with TDA, the state government, and relevant ministries to identify mechanisms for improvement, ensuring that Pulau Tioman benefits from the growth of the island's tourism sector.
Meanwhile, regarding the slipway facility, Amir Hamzah said it was upgraded by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) to replace the old structure, which had deteriorated and posed safety risks to users particularly students undergoing sailing training.
He noted that this initiative helps boost the socio-economic well-being of Kampung Mukut by providing basic infrastructure and fostering skills development among local residents.
The upgraded slipway provides students with safer access for handling boats and sailing equipment, thereby supporting the development of young talent in the sport of sailing.
The initiative is part of TM’s efforts under the TM Future Skills (TMFS) programme, involving students from all four schools on Pulau Tioman with technical guidance from the Malaysia Sailing Association (MSA).
